Martin Hintz Memorial Writing Scholarship

This annual scholarship is awarded on the 1st of June every year to qualifying middle school and high school students. The creative writing essay contest will include a monetary award to those who best express themselves in the given theme for that year.

The theme of the essay contest for 2021 is "Exploring the World Again: Stepping Outside After a Year of Reflection"

Loren Martin Hintz - Martin started the Irish American Post in 1990 out of his love for all things Irish. Every pub in the city kept the free monthly paper and circulation spread throughout the Midwest bringing news of Ireland and the Irish diaspora to thousands of readers over the years.

Martin joined the Chieftains Circle of Milwaukee's Irish Fest after helping found the annual festival and serving as it's public relations director during its growth. He and his family often hosted bands and storytellers from all over Ireland during the festival's early years. Martin passed in 2020, but will always remain the heart and soul of the Irish American Post.

"Dying is a troublesome business: there is pain to be suffered, and it wrings one's heart; but death is a splendid thing - a warfare accomplished, a beginning all over again, a triumph."

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) Irish writer
